King County Seeks Contractor Representatives to Apply for Priority Hire Advisory Committee

King County Priority Hire Advisory Committee

Seeking Applications from Contractor Representatives residing in King County

Applications are due Tuesday, August 21, 2018. Please submit to opportunity@kingcounty.gov!

The King County Finance and Business Operations Division is soliciting applications from Contractor representatives residing in King County for its new King County Priority Hire Advisory Committee. This committee will operate in an advisory role for the implementation and effectiveness of the County’s Priority Hire program.

The Priority Hire program is designed to prioritize the recruitment and placement of economically disadvantaged local workers on King County public works construction projects estimated at $15 million or more. The program is intended to help address construction workforce shortages, diversify the construction workforce and improve the well-being of individuals who live in geographic areas of economic distress.

The King County Priority Hire Advisory Committee will consist of eight to twelve members, to be appointed by the Executive and confirmed by the King County Council.

“A good faith effort shall be made to include representatives with experience in the construction industry from: contractors; The Associated General Contractors of Washington; labor union representatives; small contractor and supplier businesses; pre-apprentice and apprentice training providers; and local community or business organizations.” (King County Ordinance, File #: 2017-0450, Section 5, Page 10)

It is the intention of the Executive to appoint members who represent the diverse communities of King County and to provide a balance of race, sex, disabilities, point-of-view, geographical area, and the specific needs of the board/committee. The recruiting methods employed by staff shall include strategies to achieve this balance.

Meeting times, and frequency will be determined at a later date, but it is anticipated that the Committee will likely meet more frequently at its outset in order to provide input prior to the County negotiating the master CWA.

If you are interested in being considered for the King County Priority Hire Advisory Committee, please complete the Application and submit to opportunity@kingcounty.gov. The deadline to submit your application is Tuesday, August 21, 2018. For more information on the Committee and its activities, please contact opportunity@kingcounty.gov.
