Architectural Design Services for Seattle Center Monorail Station Rehabilitation
The purpose of this solicitation is to retain the services of a qualified consultant team led by an architectural firm with a proven record of delivering inspired design solutions and the qualifications necessary to achieve the project goals within the framework of a negotiated construction contract in the public realm.
The consultant will provide complete design and engineering services, from Schematic Design through Project Closeout. The design will include seamlessly integrated accessibility solutions as well as modifications and additions that rejuvenate the existing terminal while being sensitive to the historic significance of the facility. The consultant will participate in preconstruction activities with the City and the GC/CM; lead the permit process; produce milestone documents for pricing and the final construction documents; and provide construction administration services through project closeout.
Goals of this project include:
- Enhancing the overall passenger experience by integrating the station into the Seattle Center campus with elements of placemaking and improved visibility and identity
- Making the station fully accessible and improving wayfinding
- Increasing system throughput by reconfiguring ticketing, queuing and boarding
- Implementing fire and life safety upgrades and other system improvements
- Making necessary repairs to maintain a state of good repair and extend the life of the facility
It is important to note that the monorail needs to remain operational during construction, to the greatest extent possible. This may affect the selection of construction methods and the sequencing of the work by the contractor.
This contract is funded, in part, by the U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Transit Administration, and is subject to the requirements set forth by the FTA Master Agreement.
This will be a cost-reimbursement with fixed-fee for profit contract. Estimated construction cost is approximately $13,000,000.
