Project Description:

 

The new 60,000 square foot one-story Birney Elementary will stand on the west border of the 8.68-acre property, with the main entrance moving from South 76th Street to South Sheridan Avenue. Four classroom wings connect to the learning commons, with the wings organized so classrooms can expand into a flexible shared learning space and to the adjacent courtyards. Outdoor play areas will sit on the north end of the property. Birney students will remain in the existing building during construction. The new school is scheduled to open in fall 2020, after which the old building will be demolished.

 

Diversity Goals: Local Pierce County 30%, MWBE 10%, WBE 6%, and SBE 5%. All firms should be certified by OMWBE. For help in becoming certified, please let us know and we will provide you with free resources for technical assistance through the Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA)–Tacoma
