Community Needs Grant (CNG) Program
About the Community Needs Grant Program
Pierce County’s Community Needs Grant (CNG) Program was created in April 2025 through a proposal by Executive Ryan Mello and unanimous approval by the County Council. The program offers the Executive and individual council members funding to support nonprofit organizations and public entities addressing critical community needs across Pierce County.
Funding supports these county priorities:
Housing affordability and homelessness
Public safety and behavioral health
Youth development and economic advancement
Community infrastructure and sustainability
This application page is only for grant funding requests to Executive Mello. Organizations seeking to apply for a CNG grant from a Councilmember must contact the Councilmember’s office for application information.
The Executive may propose up to $375,000 in CNG expenditures each biennium. Eligible non-capital projects may receive up to $150,000 over the two-year budget cycle. Capital projects or property acquisitions may be awarded up to $2 million when matched with other funding and ready for timely completion.
Each Councilmember is also allocated up to $375,000 non-capital project funding and can also accept capital project proposals.
The Executive and Council determine final grant awards through the County’s biennial budget process. Overall funding and grant availability is subject to approval by the Council.
