There may also be other work occurring at the park. Coordination with the City and other Contractors is critical.

SCOPE OF WORK:

DeYoung Park underwent improvements in 2018 creating a wonderful park and community space including a central wood structure called the Treehouse.  All wood structures/furnishings were finished with Penofin Verde “Natural” color per the manufacturer’s recommendations and attached specification documents.  The Scope of Work for the project is to preserve the park’s wood structures/furnishings and maintain a like-new appearance of the wood.  The last treatment was completed summer of 2023.

Cleaning/pressure washing, prepping, and re-staining of all wood surfaces shall be pursuant to Penofin Verde’s recommendations.  The design drawings and specifications attached herein provide a reference of what the wood structures/furnishings were originally designed and finished with in 2018.  Also included are some pictures of the Treehouse and boardwalk.

Electrical power, if needed, is available on the northside of the Treehouse structure.

Sealing of wood surfaces

When cleaning the wood surfaces, certain areas might require a more aggressive wood stripper treatment. The recommended product is Penofin Pro-Tech Stripper (data sheet provided).

Seal all cedar (including vertical surfaces) decking, ramps, steps, trellis, stair treads, railing cap, benches, tables, and custom furnishings with Penofin Verde ‘Natural’ color. Sealer to be applied per manufacturer’s recommendations.

For the upper and lower decking of the Treehouse and the boardwalk there is a combined area of approximately 2,000 sq. Ft. of 2”x6” #2 cedar.

The tables/chairs on the upper deck of the Treehouse and benches on the lower deck are 4”x4” cedar.

Note that some of the wood installed is salvaged wood.  Contractor to verify and perform work appropriately.

Wood surfaces to be sealed:

  1. Wood Decking & Boardwalk: All surfaces.
  2. Treehouse: Entire structure including all wood surfaces (e.g. tables/chairs at upper deck)
  3. Wood Cap Guard Rail: All surfaces.
