Olympia Armory Interpretive Sign

As part of the WMD’s divesture from the Olympia Armory, the Agency must procure, in accordance with a signed memorandum of agreement (MOA), an interpretive sign about the history of the Olympia Armory. It must include the following per the MOA:

  • The sign shall be “visible and readable from the pedestrian right-of-way along Eastside St SE as shown in Figure 1.
  • In consultation with the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) and other interested parties, the WAARNG/WMD will fund and execute the design, fabrication, and installation of an interpretive sign to memorialize the history of the Olympia Armory.
  • This sign will be located on the Olympia Armory property at 1106 5th Ave SE, Olympia, WA 98501.
  • The design and content of the sign will be guided by stakeholder input from the Sign Committee, a group organized and facilitated by the WMD/WAARNG. Invited groups to the Sign Committee will include the OHSBHM, the City of Olympia Historic Preservation Office, the Olympia School District, the Olympia Eastside Neighborhood Association, the Olympia Downtown Association, The Olympia Arts and Heritage Alliance, and the Thurston Economic Development Council the Washington Army National Guard Museum, and other stakeholders who express interest in participation.”

Administrative Duties and Deliverables:

  • Attend (1-3) shareholder meetings, and any interim communications needed, to clarify and incorporate desired elements/information into the design, production, and installation of the final product.
  • Coordinate with the Environmental Program Project Lead to insure design specifications satisfy MOA requirements, including shareholder majority approval of final design and final approval received by MOA signatories.
  • Design, produce, and install an interpretive sign at an agreed upon/approved location at the Olympia Armory. Please include 2 – 3 size/materials recommendations/pricing based on the location/readability requirement of the MOA.
  • Final design/production documents will be provided in an accessible electronic format to the MOA signatories, sans copyrights, to ensure that any future repairs, replacement, or resizing required for the sign can be accomplished using the original final design files, if desired by the interested parties, under new RFP.
