RFI 2025-176 Salmon Science Investigations for the 2025-2027 State Biennium
FUNDING ANNOUNCEMENT AND OVERVIEW
The Puget Sound Partnership (Partnership) and its Salmon Science Advisory Group are pleased to announce Salmon Science Investigations funding for the 2025-2027 state biennium (July 1, 2025 - June 30, 2027). The Partnership is seeking responses in the format of project proposals from parties interested in conducting collaborative studies to advance salmon recovery efforts in Puget Sound. Project leads and firms licensed to conduct business in the state of Washington are eligible to submit proposals by March 10, 2025. More information about projects previously funded through Partnership science solicitations, including Salmon Science Investigations, is available on our webpage.
Funding will be awarded to investigations that inform progress towards self-sustaining, harvestable salmon populations that uphold Tribal treaty rights and support thriving communities and ecosystems in Puget Sound. Studies should fill critical knowledge gaps to inform planning, policy, and management decisions towards this goal. The Partnership has the greatest need for studies on Endangered Species Act (ESA) listed Chinook salmon and steelhead, but studies of other salmonid species in Puget Sound are also eligible for funding. Specifically, the Partnership is seeking project proposals that address one or more of the following categories:
1. Relationships between salmonid populations, recovery actions, and salmonid habitat quality or quantity;
2. Marine survival and marine food webs;
3. Salmon production potential across landscapes and habitats; and
4. Human dimensions of salmon recovery.
The geographical scope for all projects is restricted to Puget Sound and surrounding watersheds. Offshore and marine studies focused on Puget Sound stocks are also eligible. Projects involving salmon stocks outside of Puget Sound will not be considered. As an implementing agency of Washington State’s Healthy Environment for All (HEAL) Act, the Partnership encourages respondents to submit project proposals that create environmental benefits for federally-recognized Tribes, overburdened and vulnerable populations, and build collaborations with community scientists, providing opportunities for Tribes, vulnerable populations, and overburdened communities to meaningfully participate.
