Whitman and Mann Elementary Schoolyard Improvements 

Tacoma Public Schools; Bid #B24010C 

 

Project Description: 

Work on this project consists of the alterations of two existing schoolyards.  Alterations include, but not limited to, temporary erosion control, demolition, earthwork, storm drainage, asphalt paving, concrete, crushed rock paving, play equipment installation, play surfacing, site furnishings, decking, play striping, and landscape and irrigation. 

 

Location: Whitman Elementary: 1120 S 39th St, Tacoma, WA 98418 

                     Mann Elementary: 1002 S 52nd St, Tacoma, WA 98408 

 

Engineers Estimate: $1,060,000 - $1,420,000  

 

Alternates: 

Whitman Alternate #1: Hill Play 

Whitman Alternate #2: Hillside Planting 

Mann Alternate #1: Synthetic Turf Field 

Mann Alternate #2: Raised Planters 

Mann Alternate #3: Additional Asphalt Grind and Overlay 

 

Pre-Bid Walk: Meet outside at Whitman Elementary’s Main Office @ 1:00pm; Wednesday, January 24th. 

 

RFI: Send questions to estimating@ohnoconstruction.com by February 1st @ 2:00pm so we can submit via the Districts Bonfire Procurement Portal. 

 

Schedule: Work to be completed in 150 working days 

 

Notice of Intent to Award 

February 19th, 2024 

 Board Approval 

March 14th, 2024 

Notice to Proceed 

March 29th, 2024 

Site Access 

April 1st, 2024 

Substantial Completion 

October 7th, 2024

  • Contractors who are MBE, WBE, & SBE are encouraged to submit a quote as apart of the Good Faith Goals: 10% MBE, 6%WBE, 5% SBE  
  • This project is subjected to Prevailing Wage 

BID DUE DATE & TIME: February 13th, 2024 @ 2:00 PM**   

Proposals may be emailed to estimating@ohnoconstruction.com or faxed to 206-324-8063. Quotes are required at least 2 hours prior to bid time. Proposals received after the Bid Due Date and Time will NOT be considered. 

**Actual bid date is February 14th @ 2:00pm; we ask for a day prior to allow for data entry and questions

STANDARD REQUIREMENTS: 

By submitting a proposal, the bidder acknowledges and agrees to all of the following terms: Proposer has carefully examined ALL the bidding documents/addenda and that, from his/her own investigation, they have satisfied themselves as to the nature and location of the work. Ohno’s listing of a subcontractor is not an acceptance of any or all of that subcontractor’s conditions, qualifications, exclusions, or exceptions included in the subcontractor’s bid proposal. Ohno is relying on the price submitted in the subcontractor’s proposal as an all-inclusive price for its trade scope found in the plans and specifications regardless of qualifying language in the proposal. Inconsistent bid terms and conditions shall be void. Break outs of any portion of work is permitted as long as specifically and conspicuously called out on proposal. Any and all bids may be rejected at the sole discretion of Ohno Construction. If selected, proposer is prepared to sign a subcontract with Ohno per Ohno’s standard subcontract agreement. A copy of Ohno’s standard subcontract agreement is available at its office locations or upon written request. Ohno Construction reserves the right to request that performance and payment bonds assuring subcontractor’s obligations to Ohno in the amount of 100 percent of the bid to Ohno. Ohno will reimburse the bond premium at actual cost not to exceed 2 percent. The surety must be a Washington admitted surety. Insurance must name Ohno, the project Owner and any other parties so designated as additionally insured and be in the types and amounts required by the specifications.
