WSP-K9s-001 - Canine Purchases for Detection Work

The Washington State Patrol has 45 K9 detection teams deployed throughout the state. With the large number of K9's working for WSP, and the lack of K9's that are available at shelters, exhibiting the necessary drive and character traits for detection work, along with the expected working life of 5-8 years, WSP replaces multiple K9's per year. The WSP Canine Training Unit must run yearly explosives and narcotics detection and K9 handler classes to replace retiring K9's.
