The City of Seattle, through its Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT), requests proposals from engineering consulting firms to provide design consulting services for the Streetcar Switch Heaters Design Services project.

The objective of this project is to reduce service interruptions to the First Hill Streetcar and the South Lake Union Streetcar during winter weather by retrofitting streetcar switches with heating elements and associated heater control cabinets. This will prevent the freezing of the switches on the tracks which will eliminate the need to have operations staff manually defrost switches. This project will retrofit five (5) streetcar switches on the First Hill Streetcar and four (4) streetcar switches on the South Lake Union Streetcar.
