Nisqually River Delta Habitat Restoration Design Request for Qualifications

Long Live the Kings (LLTK) is seeking Statements of Qualifications (SOQ) from firms to provide 60% restoration design (Basic Services) and potential 100% restoration design, construction representation and post-construction monitoring services (Additional Services) for the Nisqually River Delta Integrated Habitat Restoration Design project (Project).

Through the Basic Services, LLTK is seeking review and advancement of the 30% designs (completed by Fall 2024) to a 60% design set, including pre-permitting facilitation and construction cost estimations. The selected consultant will work with the technical advisory team, led by Long Live the Kings, and including the Nisqually Indian Tribe and the Billy Frank Jr. Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge. To date, the 30% conceptual designs are focused on creating a flow-diverting channel from the Nisqually River mainstem just upstream of I-5 and re-aligning McAllister Creek to its historic channel between Martin Way and I-5. Potential solutions further detailed in the design include the use of woody debris within the river to reduce water speed and improve sediment delivery and the use of native plantings to create habitat for wildlife and reduce erosion.

LLTK will coordinate these restoration design services with the Nisqually Indian Tribe (NIT), which will be providing project and design input to LLTK throughout the Project. This design will be guided by NIT’s vision with critical input from Billy Frank Jr Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) staff and other members of the technical advisory group. Additionally, public input will be included throughout the design process. A 30% conceptual design will soon be completed, and funding to advance the project to a 60% design phase is secured through a National Coastal Resilience Fund grant from the National Fish and Wild Foundation. Further funding will be required to secure the Additional Services.

One firm will be selected for the project. The contract’s total value is estimated to be $500,000. The full Request for Qualifications can be found here: https://lltk.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/2024-Nisqually-Estuary-RFP-F...
