Turner Construction is holding three outreach and networking opportunities to find subcontractors for Tacoma Public Schools' Birney Elementary Replacement Project in East Tacoma. Please see the attached flyer for full event details. Attendance is not mandatory for project participation, but is encouraged to maximize networking opportunities. Please RSVP.

About the project
The new 60,000-square-foot one-story Birney Elementary will tand on the west border of hte 8.68-acre property, with the main entrance moving from South 76th Street to South Sheridan Avenue. Four classroom wings connect to the learning commons, with the wings organized so classrooms can expand into a flexible shared learning space and to the adjacent courtyards. Outdoor play areas will sit on the north end of the property. Birney students will remian in the existing building during construction. The new school is scheduled to open in fall 2020, after which the old building will be demolished.
Inclusion goals
Disadvantaged businesses are encouraged to participate to learn about sub-tier opportunities in addition to primary sub-contractor opportunities. Tacoma Public Schools has the following disadvantaged business inclusion expectations on this project:
- 30% local businesses (Pierce County headquarters)
- 10% certified minority-owned businesses (MBE)
- 6% certified women-owned businesses (WBE)
- 5% certified small businesses (SBE)
- 15% apprenticeship
